"So how are we able to escape the fools hell of self-deception? What is the antidote? It starts with wisdom and wisdom begins with the Fear of the Lord. We are promised that those who seek Wisdom diligently will find her but there can be no seeking wisdom without the fear of the Lord and there can be no fear of the Lord if there is not first confession of sin."

Christ Covenant Church is a historically reformed and evangelical church that has been serving the greater Centralia Chehalis area since May of 2021.  We meet for worship each Lord’s Day to sing psalms & hymns, confess our historic faith, hear the Word faithfully proclaimed, and celebrate the Lord’s Supper. Throughout the week we go out into the world to build the Kingdom of Christ right here in Lewis County as it is in heaven. If this sounds like a vision for you, we would love to have you join us.

In our lectionary reading, which you can find on the front your Order of Service, we find ourselves in the book of Acts. This passage follows the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Men from around the world miraculously heard the gospel of Jesus Christ spoken in their own language. Right on cue seeing this miracle, the fools in Israel claimed, of all things, that the Holy Spirit-filled men speaking these languages were drunk. Peter castigates the crowd for their refusal to believe even obvious signs and wonders. He say, _”Men of Israel, Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know…you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death”_ You see, the fool says in his heart there is no God. The Jews, professing to be wise became fools in their hatred of Jesus and in so doing they acted out the most insanely unwise idea and put to death the King of glory. This was all due to rebellious self-deception. Self deception is simply awful because there is no earthly way to guard against it and everyone is born hopelessly enslaved to it. Notice through, I said there is no “earthly” way to guard against it. There is a way to break through the curse of the fools self-deception. There is an antidote. Solomon tells us in Proverbs 8 _“Does not wisdom cry out, And understanding lift up her voice?”_ Wisdom goes on to says, …_”Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom; I am understanding, I have strength. By me kings reign…I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.”_ So how are we able to escape the fools hell of self-deception? What is the antidote? It starts with wisdom and wisdom begins with the Fear of the Lord. We are promised that those who seek Wisdom diligently will find her but there can be no seeking wisdom without the fear of the Lord and there can be no fear of the Lord if there is not first confession of sin. So as you are able, will you kneel with me as we confess our sins together.
